How To Love Your Enemy.

Let’s face it, we all have at least one enemy, some of us have more then we can count. Some hate you for no cause, others hate you because of your accomplishments in life, the success you’ve worked so hard to obtain, you got a promotion and they felt like they should have gotten the promotion or maybe the hate stems from  you are just good at being you, no apparent reason at all, they just simply don’t like you!

How do you handle someone that really dislikes you for no apparent reason and you have to deal with this person or persons on a regular basis? Having someone around you who despise you can really become a stressful situation. You do everything in your power to make peace but to no avail! You go out of your way to get out of their way, but why should you have to change your route because they have a problem with you, that’s their problem not yours right?

There is a saying that goes “you can please some of the people all of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time!” So, my suggestion to you is don’t even try, don’t change your personality, because they still wouldn’t be pleased, don’t stoop to their level because now you are becoming something you hate. Well, what are you to do, you ask? How do you love your enemy? I truly believe that for every problem there is a solution and that solution is found in the word of God.

Now when we was in the world, we dealt with situations like this with our own problem solving remedies. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, “you hate me so I’m going to hate you back, you don’t speak to me so I’m not speaking to you.” I hate to say it but this kind of behavior is even in the Church. “He/she is preaching I’m not going to service today, or if she/he ministering I’m not lifting my hands to give God praise because she/he is in the pulpit, if she/he is singing I’m not singing, I’m not going up for prayer because he/she is praying.” SMH

Really? Come on we are suppose to be the Body of Christ! Many members but one Body! This kind of activity we expect from people in the world because that’s the way of the world, the world’s system is set up for failure because the foundation is self. It’s all about me, myself and I, what can I get out of this, you hit me and I hit you back. That’s the way of the world.

Now that we have become members in the Body of Christ we are to no longer live as the world live, we are no longer to handle situations as we did in the past when we was in the world. Jesus knew that situations like these would rise up in His Body so He gave us a remedy.

Matthew 5:43-48  Jesus is talking to His disciples and He’s teaching them on how to deal with their enemies, He says in previous scriptures, I know that in the past you heard the saying an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, in other words, do unto others as they have done unto you! But, Jesus came with a different way of dealing with your enemies.

Vs. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

What? Totally opposite to what we are use to doing  for our enemies, but Jesus gives us the remedy, first He tells us what to do, then He tells us how to do it, PRAY! That’s right pray for your enemies. When you pray for your enemy you begin to see them through God’s eyes and your heart become soft toward your enemy, if not,  your heart will become hard, then bitter, then death! Before Jesus there was  the Law, but now we are no longer under the Law, but Grace! That means we have grace now to pray for our enemies. Jesus tells us to love our enemies by praying for them that we might be like our Father which is in Heaven!

If we as the Body of Christ are going to show the world the love of Jesus, we have to first love each other with the Love of Jesus, for our Father maketh His sun to rise on the evil and good! What kind of God would He be if He only made the sun to rise on the good? That would show partiality toward His creation, if we are to be like our Heavenly Father, we must love like our Heavenly Father, Jesus said the world will know that you are mine by the love we show to one another and He showed us by example when He hung on the cross and prayed for His enemies while they were crucifying Him and the sad part about it is His death was for their benefit to.

I’m sure none of us has ever had to forgive someone you were crucified for, Jesus died for you and me and we were yet still His enemy, so if He can die for His enemies I’m sure we can pray for ours! That’s how you can love your enemy!

Keep Your Friends Close And Your Enemies Closer?

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer was a term used by people considered to be street people, a saying I could not come to wrap my mind around. If you’re my enemy I didn’t want to have anything to do with you and I definitely don’t want you close to me or even closer then a friend as a matter of fact I don’t want to have anything to do with you!

According to Noah Webster 1828 Edition an enemy is a foe; an adversary. A private enemy is one who hates another and wishes him injury, or attempts to do him injury to gratify his own malice or ill will. A public enemy or foe, is one who belongs to a nation or party, at war with another.

Why would anybody in their right mind want to have anything to do with someone who privately hates them or wishes to do them injury to gratify his own malice? Never made sense to me.

But, when I became a worshiper, I read that we are to love our enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. Matt. 5:44 but it still doesn’t say anything about keeping your enemies close.

As I continued to study this new concept of how I should treat my enemies, the one who privately hates me and wishes to do injury to me to gratify their own malice, I found that when I submit to His will concerning this matter there is a reward for those that bless those that hate you, for what reward is there if you only love those that love you back?

Let me say here that we shouldn’t be obedient only in expectation of receiving a reward, we should be obedient because it’s the right thing to do.

All of those things I can do afar, my enemy doesn’t have to be a part of my life for me to pray for them, I can bless them by speaking a blessing over their lives, I don’t need them in my space!

But, God spoke to me and showed me in His word why I shouldn’t run my enemies off!  He said in Psalms 23:5 that He preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies! That means that my enemies has to be close to me to witness the spread God has prepared for me!

When God prepares a table for you, He uses the best, He takes His time to make sure everything is perfect, the best settings, everything is in it’s proper place and the timing is right!

So,while your enemy is privately hating you at the same time God is privately preparing to bless you openly in the presence of your enemies!  Now I understand the concept “Keep Your Friends Close And Your Enemies Closer”

Don’t run your enemies off, you need them in your presence because God is preparing a table before you in the presence of your enemies!

Hagar Must Go!

When I first read the story of Hagar, I felt so sorry for her, she was an Egyptian slave to a Chaldean turned Hebrew princess Sarai who was to give birth to Issac the promised child. But, the promise didn’t come immediately. Sarai’s faith had to be tested before she could give birth to the promise.

Hagar did not start out as a slave, she had everything a girl could want, she was the daughter of the most powerful man on earth at that time. Her Father was Pharaoh of Egypt, she was beautiful with her dark skin, a Princess of the most powerful country in the world with all the riches of the world at her fingertip! But, all of that changed in an instant when her Father gave her as a gift to a Hebrew couple to be a servant in their household.

Hagar had no say in this matter, she had no decisions concerning her future, she was at her Father’s command. Hagar didn’t put up a fight, she didn’t go kicking and screaming, she didn’t complain.

Imagine you”re a Princess one day, the next a slave in a foreign land stripped of all riches, power and fame to become second wife to a Patriarch, to a slave to your baby’s Father’s first wife, to a single Mother and homeless. On the surface of the story it sounds like Hagar had been used and tossed out as  trash!

But, after reading this story from a spiritual perspective I begin to understand that there is a deeper meaning to this story and why Hagar Must Go! See, Abram and Sarai were chosen by God to give birth to a Nation that would become God’s chosen people to take the message to the world for the need to accept the Sovereignty of the One True God!

Abram would no longer be called Father of one nation but now he was to be called Father of many Nations. But, how could this be seeing that he was old and Sarai’s womb was barren? If they were God’s chosen to take a message to the world through their descendants the only way it could happen is if God did it and that was the original plan of God anyway.

But, Sarai had other plans for bringing the promise to pass. She was fruitful in material things but her womb could bear no fruit. So, what was the convenient thing for Sarai to do?

Turn to Hagar, she was Sarai’s servant and Sarai was to do with her as she willed, and Sarai willed that she was not leaving this earth without giving her husband a son.

Hagar was young, fruitful and beautiful and Sarai could raise the child up as if the child came from her own womb. Sarai gave her husband permission to lay with Hagar and conceive a child. Up to this point Hagar was submissive to her Mistress but after giving birth to her child Hagar began to despise Sarai and mock her, Hagar became prideful and her whole attitude changed toward Sarai.

Hagar found herself in the dessert, she couldn’t take the harsh treatment of Sarai so she ran away, but the Angel of the Lord found Hagar and told her to go back and submit to Sarai so Hagar was obedient and she went back and did as the Lord said. Eventually, Sarai gave birth to Issac and now instead of Abraham having one son, he now has two sons.

The son of Hagar begin to harass Sarah’s son Issac and this time when Hagar finds herself homeless and a single Mother it’s not by her choice. Sarah has had enough of Hagar and her son’s disrespect so she have Abraham pack their bags and sends them away. Hagar finds herself back in the desert, homeless, thirsty and ready to die.

When I begin to realize who Hagar represented in this story and who Sarah and Issac represented I understood why Sarah sent Hagar and Ishmael away. Ishmael was conceived not by the will of God but the will of the flesh. Hagar was a type of the flesh in this story as Sarah was a type of the spiritual. The bible tells us that the spirit and the flesh are always at enmity with each other as we saw Hagar and Sarah clashing with each other.

The flesh is not suppose to be the superior factor in our lives, but the flesh is suppose to come under subject to our spiritman, that is why when Hagar left from under Sarah’s authority the angel told her to go back and become submissive to your master, you had no right to rebel against authority! Paul said it like this in I Cor. 9:27 I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Sarah is the witness of the Sovereignty of God to those in her household and the whole world, what kind of witness would she give had she let Hagar taken her throne of authority? What kind of witness would she be had she not sent Ishmael who was conceived by the flesh and not by the will of God inherited the promise? A terrible witness is what she would have been become.

In order for the Church to be an effective witness to the world Hagar Must Go! The flesh must come subject to the Spirit of God and we must keep under own flesh and bring it into subjection to our spiritman that has been quickened or become alive to the Spirit of God unless we ourselves become castaways or worthless witnesses!

God’s Trying To Kill Me!

I know it’s hard to fathom that God would be the one who was trying to kill me, but let me explain before you think I have lost my natural mind. There was a season in my life where I was going through such a rough time. I felt like if God didn’t do something quick I was going to lose my mind and walk away from Christendom.

People who I thought were my friends, I found later to be false, I had family members hurt me to the core, my finances were out of whack, my health was critical, the devil attacked my daughter, my employer hated me or at least that’s the way they treated me, every door of opportunity just slapped me in the face and I found out later that I have a family history of anxiety attacks, had I not started to have them myself I probably would have never known that I had a family history of anxiety.

Talk to the elders in your family and found out your history some things you are dealing with can be a generational curse passed down from generation to generation.  I had been beat down to the ground!

What was I to do? The only thing I knew to do, I fell on my face daily and cried out to God a cry that came from the depths of my soul, I was broken to the core. I have always been a seeker of God, I have always prided myself to being a woman after God’s own heart and going deep into the things of God. So, I could not understand this place I found myself in.

Finally, I came to the conclusion that someone was trying to kill me, not make me lose my mind but literally trying to kill me and I was going to find out who it was. Of course my first intuition said it was the Devil. It had to be him because I had finally come to personally know that God loved me or else He wouldn’t have sent His only Son to die for me on the cross, right?

But, I didn’t have peace with that answer, so there was only one other answer to my question, God are you trying to kill me? His answer was a resounding yes! I’m trying to kill everything in you that is not of me, everything that resembles pride in your life must die, everything that takes your attention from me I want it dead, every fleshly matter in your life must be crucified, every idol must be demolished, period.

When you worship me you will worship me from a broken and contrite heart, you will pour out of your soul until there is nothing left for you to pour,  you will be empty and then I can begin to pour myself into you, when the world looks at you I don’t want any evidence of you but they will know that you have been in my presence.

And there it was, God was killing every thing in me that was not like Him, He was pruning me of every weed that was laying dormant in my life, He was plucking out of me every dead root that produced dead fruits. And it was for my good, it didn’t feel good to my flesh I can assure you that, but it was good for my flesh. I was being crucified and everything that was not like God was dying.

During that season of my life was rough for sure but it was during those times that I felt closer to God then any other time in my life, when I felt I had no one else to turn to I turned to Him, when I felt there was no one to listen me to me, I turned to Him, when there was no arm for me to lean on I leaned on Him and I was better for it!

I learned a very powerful lesson that when all hell breaks through in your life, when you find yourself in a lonely and dark place, when you feel like someone is trying to kill you, don’t automatically assume that it is the Devil it just might be God!

His Handmaiden,
